La Jolla Sunset Lines
I’ve posted other photographs from La Jolla, and mentioned how amazing it is to visit. La Jolla Sunset Lines is another image from La Jolla, and quite frankly no one can have too many photographs of this beautiful ocean, beach, landscape. Read more about the Behind the Scenes of this image and enjoy the beauty.
La Jolla California
La Jolla is an amazing beach area about 25 miles North of downtown San Diego. This beach community is home to many shops, restaurants, galleries, and also the Pacific ocean. The sunsets here are breath taking. Therefore it is also a great place for photography.
Behind The Scenes
This image, titled “La Jolla Sunset Lines” was taken in the winter of 2015. It was taken south of the tide pools at low tide. This area is great at low tide, as many rock formations appear as the tide goes out. Therefore it is great if you can time low tide and sunset.
This was a great sunset that seamed to last for forever. As a result, I was able to get a few shots of the same sunset from different locations, with different scenery in the foreground. This is an important time to remind you that you always have to put something in the foreground of a beach sunset. It’s just the rule. Otherwise, it just is not interesting to others that look at it.
Photographing sunsets at the beach is not as easy as it would seem. There are many things to consider:
- Your exposures get long. As it gets darker the sunset colors get more vibrant. Therefore a sturdy tripod is a must.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t set your bag down a walk away. There is too much expensive gear in it. Most of the time I will leave my bag in the vehicle so I don’t have to carry it around. This also eliminates the chance of getting sand in your bag.
- Sand leads me to the next thing. Salt and sand are very bad for your photographic equipment. If you take the equipment to the beach wipe it down and make sure it it clean before you put it away.
Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope you enjoy the image.

The Trip
The beaches at La Jolla are great. You can easily spend all day there, so make sure to remember the sunscreen. If you do visit don’t forget to stop for lunch or dinner and enjoy the ocean air while you eat. It is an excellent way to take a break from walking around, access facilities, and recharge to go out some more. There are also many great galleries to wander through to increase your inspiration.
