Lifeguard Tower La Jolla
Lifeguard Towers are just a staple of the California Coastline. They are quite the mark that you are at the beach and it is time to let loose and have some fun. Lifeguard Tower La Jolla was actually a temporary tower that made a great foreground for viewing the sunset over the Pacific ocean.
La Jolla, California
What else can I say about La Jolla, CA that I haven’t said before in earlier posts. Located North of San Diego, La Jolla used to be a little fishing village of a place and today it is full of restaurants, galleries, shops, and most importantly a beautiful coastline. It is one of the jewels of coastal California. For additional information this the La Jolla Wiki Link.
Behind The Scenes
This image, titled “Lifeguard Tower La Jolla” was taken in the spring of 2014. I was actually packing up my vehicle when I turned around and saw the tower and the sunset behind it. I new I didn’t have the time to get the tripod out, because the sun was below the horizon. As a result, I just went for it with the camera handheld. Lucky for me image stabilization was enough for me to be able to capture this image crisply at 1/10 of a second exposure.
This is a great time to remind everyone to always be on the look out for things that aren’t usually there. I was shooting in La Jolla a lot and didn’t even pay attention to the fact that there was a lifeguard tower in a completely new place. Shooting photography in the same place all the time can become routine. Remember to take each adventure as if you have never been there before. The reality is the world keeps spinning and every second that goes by nothing after it will be exactly the same.
Also, always have your tripod and camera ready. I learned that day to never pack the camera and tripod in their bags until after I get back to the vehicle.
Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope you enjoy the image.

The Trip
La Jolla is a spectacular location to go photograph. The coastline is amazing, the beaches are beautiful, and the rock formations create interesting formations. Therefore, be prepared to spend a lot of time there if you go and enjoy it.
If you are going to travel there, here are some tips –
- It is easy to lose track of time and at the end of the day you are cooked. Therefore, don’t forget to take sunscreen.
- Sand gets everywhere when you visit the beach. As a result, it is hard on equipment. Make sure to carry a towel with you in your vehicle so you can wipe down your equipment. I recommend doing it before it goes back in your equipment bag.
- La Jolla is a tourist town and there are always people looking to take advantage. Therefore, don’t leave your bag sitting around while you are photographing.
